Daniels recognizes Millsaps with One Brick Higher Award

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue President Mitch Daniels on Monday (April 11) honored Mary Duarte Millsaps with the One Brick Higher Award.

Millsaps is Purdue’s research information assurance officer in the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships, and is key in Purdue’s efforts to ensure security of its proprietary research.

The One Brick Higher Award is a special recognition given to Purdue faculty, staff and students who go beyond the requirements of their role and, through extraordinary effort, improve the lives of those around them, increase the effectiveness of the workplace or prevent or solve problems.

“Purdue’s research partnerships with defense and industry require tight control over sponsor information,” Daniels said. “Due in great part to the efforts of Mary Millsaps, we are well positioned to take on increased research opportunities with defense and industry agencies.”

Millsaps manages established compliance programs related to the security of research information that, either due to federal law or contractual obligation, is subject to greater controls. She works closely with faculty and staff affected by these requirements and serves as both the Purdue’s Export Control Officer and Facility Security Officer. As a result of Millsaps’ oversight of research subject to U.S. export control laws, the university was selected as one of only three recipients http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/2016/Q2/purdue-university-receives-award-from-u.s.-defense-security-service.html  of the 2015 Defense Security Service Award for Excellence in Counterintelligence..

“Mary Millsaps exemplifies what it means to build this university ‘one brick higher,’” Daniels said.
