Purdue is one of top 200 'Most International Universities'
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Times Higher Education has ranked Purdue University on its top 200 list of the Most International Universities. Only nine U.S. institutions made the global list, which was announced Thursday (Jan. 14).
Massachusetts Institute of Technology ranked the highest at 90th, and Purdue was ranked 196th. Qatar University was ranked No. 1. Times Higher Education used the "international outlook" indicator of the World University Rankings' top 800 universities to build this list.
Some of the 13 indicators used to determine the most international universities included the extent to which academics collaborate with international colleagues and the diversity of a university's student body.
Purdue has the third-largest number of international students among U.S. public institutions, according to the Institute of International Education, and seventh overall.
"A culturally diverse campus that includes students from around the world is key to the Purdue educational experience. Within this context our Indiana students learn from and with students from 125 different countries," said Michael Brzezinski, dean of International Programs. "The International Programs office is dedicated to providing social and cultural opportunities, both on and off campus, travel opportunities to historical and culturally rich destinations within our state, in-depth analyses of U.S. culture and leadership opportunities, while at the same time focusing on promoting meaningful interaction between international and domestic students."
In 2015, Purdue was recognized with a couple of international student awards, including being named by the U.S. government as the top STEM school for international students. The Institute of International Education also honored Purdue with the Heiskell Award for helping international students integrate into campus life and the local community.
