Chris Heaton-Harris was elected to Parliament for Daventry in the May 2010 general election. He is an active soccer referee and has been officiating the game at different levels for over 32 years. Heaton-Harris was a Conservative member of the European Parliament for the East Midlands Region of the UK from 1999 to 2009. He held various positions in the European Parliament including Chief Whip of the British Conservatives from 2001-2004. A Eurosceptic, he hopes his experience in Brussels will be useful to any future Conservative government. He was one of the authors of "Direct Democracy" and is a passionate "localist."

Tom Pursglove was elected as to Parliament for Corby and East Northamptonshire in May 2015, when he was 26. He grew up in nearby Wellingborough and was first elected to serve the Croyland Ward on the Borough Council of Wellingborough in 2007 at the age of 18. He was the youngest councilor in the country at that time. Pursglove is director of Together Against Wind, the national anti-wind farm campaign. He has taken a leading role in the EU "Leave" campaign, co-founding the GO Movement, and he is also the chief executive of Grassroots Out, the cross-party, cross-leave, grass-roots campaign.

This event is part of the PGSG Lectureship Series, which aims to bring diverse and noteworthy thinkers to Purdue several times a year for the benefit of both graduate students and the broader community.
