Purdue Bands and Orchestras to fill February with concerts

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An Evening of Romance will be part of a busy February for  Purdue Bands & Orchestras.

The concert will take place at 8 p.m. Feb. 13 in Marriott Hall on Purdue’s campus. The event, to celebrate Valentine’s Day, is hosted by the Purdue Jazz Band in partnership with the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The band will treat attendees to an evening of cabaret-style tunes that recreate the atmosphere of 1940s big bands. Purdue Bands & Orchestras open the month’s performance schedule on Feb. 5, with a Swing Dance at 8 p.m. at the France A. Cordova Recreational Sports Center feature gym. The American Music Repertory Ensemble, Lab Jazz Band and Concert Jazz Band will perform.

Other February performances include:

* 8 p.m., Feb. 19. Wind Works will feature Purdue’s Wind Ensemble and Collegiate Band at the Long Center, 111 N. 6th St., Lafayette.

* 8 p.m., Feb. 20. Wind Works will feature Purdue’s Symphonic Band and Varsity Band at the Long Center.

* 2:30 p.m., Feb. 21. Wind Works will feature the Purdue Concert and University Band at the Long Center.

* 8 p.m., Feb. 26. The American Music Repertory Ensemble will perform at Stewart Center’s Loeb Playhouse on campus. There will be a pre-concert Guitar Ensemble beginning at 7:15 p.m.
