Harpeth Rising brings 'chambergrass' to Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The violin, banjo and cello shall come together to form Harpeth Rising, a "chambergrass" trio that will blend folk, rock, classical and newgrass with performances on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. each evening.

This general admission performance at Carnahan Hall, 800 Main St., Lafayette, is presented by Purdue Convocations.

Taking its name from the river that flows through Tennessee, the Harpeth River, the self-styled trio is comprised of Jordana Greenberg (violin, vocals), Rebecca Reed-Lunn (banjo, vocals), and Maria Di Meglio (cello, vocals). The three who met while earning performance degrees at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Inspired by spending a summer jamming at campsites and folk festivals, the women formed Harpeth Rising in 2009. The trio fuses folk, newgrass and classical, and has performed with the Bath Philharmonia and at the Cambridge Folk Festival. The group's fifth album, Shifted, was released last summer.
