Appointments, honors and activities

Student honors:

- Stephanie N. Thiede, a senior in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, has won a 2016 Pfizer Society of Toxicology (SOT) Undergraduate Student Travel Award. The organization recognized Thiede as an outstanding undergraduate who will be presenting research in the field of toxicology at the society's annual meeting. SOT will formally honor her at the awards ceremony during the society's 55th annual meeting and ToxExpo March 13-17 in New Orleans. Thiede conducts research with Sherry Voytik-Harbin, professor of biomedical engineering and basic medical sciences. Thiede will present her work on the application of a three-dimensional in-vitro model of blood vessel formation as a new screening tool for chemical safety and drug development. This platform may help reduce the use of animal testing as well as provide new insight into how specific drugs and chemicals affect blood vessel formation, maturation and stabilization.
