Purdue President Mitch Daniels comments on Sec. Arne Duncan’s decision to step down

October 2, 2015

Purdue President Mitch Daniels provided the following statement on Friday’s (Oct. 2) announcement that Arne Duncan is stepping down as U.S. Secretary of Education. Duncan recently spoke at Purdue as part of the Presidential Lecture Series (https://www.purdue.edu/convocations/event/arne-duncan/)

"After his seven years of valiant service, all of us should understand Sec. Duncan's decision, but we can simultaneously regret it deeply. He has placed America's children and their academic success at the center of his work every day of his tenure, often challenging the most intransigent and powerful special interests in our political system to do so. Those who succeed him in this administration and the next would be wise to emulate and extend his example."
