Purdue job fair to recruit plumbers, electricians and custodians

December 1, 2015

WEST LAFYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University Physical Facilities will be hosting a job fair on Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in order to attract plumbers, electricians and custodians. Approximately 20 positions will be available, all of which are full-time and offer both immediate benefits and newly increased wages.

Optional 10-minute informational sessions will be hosted over the course of the job fair:

* 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. - Benefits of Working at Purdue

* 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. - Writing Your Resume

* 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. - How to Apply

* 11:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. - Preparing for an Interview

“The job fair is designed to be flexible, casual and relaxed, and applicants can stop by anytime between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.,” said Kurt Stull, operations and maintenance director. “Applicants who don’t yet have a resume and haven’t applied for a position at Purdue in the past or want to learn more about the benefits of working at Purdue may want to attend the short informational sessions we’re hosting, but they are not required.”

In addition to being benefits-eligible, wage increases have recently been applied to the positions being filled.

“The custodial positions will have an entry-level wage of $10 per hour,” said Ben Dispennett, building services director. “The wage for these positions was evaluated and increased earlier this year.”

According to Stull, plumber and electrician wages were also recently evaluated and increased. The pay rates for successful candidates will be based on experience and skill-level. For example, the entry hiring wage for a level 8 plumber or electrician is $18.89 per hour.

In addition to competitive wages, Purdue offers an attractive benefits package available immediately to all full-time employees, including health, vision and dental insurance; retirement programs; paid time off; and more.

The job fair will be at the Physical Facilities Service Building, located at 775 Ahlers Drive, in Room 1179. On the day of the event, applicants should follow posted signs for parking and building entry information. Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer. All individuals, including minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
