Award-winning violinist to perform at Purdue

October 21, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Twenty-year-old violinist In Mo Yang will perform on Nov. 13 at Purdue's Loeb Playhouse. This 8 p.m. performance is presented by Purdue Convocations with Friends support from Mike and Pam Luenz and additional support from Westminster Village.

Korean violinist In Mo Yang earned first prize at Italy's 54th International Violin Competition "Premio Paganini" - the only first prize awarded by the competition's jury in nearly a decade. He won first prize in the 2014 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition and second prize in the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition the same year. He also won the Boston Classical Orchestra's inaugural Young Artists Competition in 2014.

Born in Indonesia to South Korean parents, Yang moved to Seoul at age 2, picked up the violin at 5, and gave his debut recital six years later. After graduating from the Korean National University of Arts as a prodigy in music, Yang came to the United States in 2013. Studying under preeminent performer and pedagogue Miriam Fried, Yang is currently pursuing a bachelor of music degree at the New England Conservatory. His soloist engagements have paired him with orchestras in Germany, Russia, South Korea and Switzerland, and he's scheduled to make his Carnegie Hall debut on this tour.
