Statements on the passing of former trustee Michael Birck

July 7, 2015

"Mike Birck, like all great businessmen, was first of all a creator of jobs and wealth for others. He shared his wisdom and his own wealth with Purdue with enormous generosity. We are all so fortunate to have known him, and we will miss him dearly."
Purdue President Mitch Daniels

“We have lost a valued member of our Purdue community. It was an honor to serve with Mike Birck on the Purdue Board of Trustees. He always put the quality of this great university first — his name will live on through the programs and facilities to which he gave so generously. More importantly, his spirit will always be present on every playing field, in every building, and among every student. His spirit is Purdue."
Tom Spurgeon, chair, Purdue Board of Trustees

Michael Birck, a 1960 College of Engineering graduate, served as a Purdue trustee from 1999-2013. He was a former Purdue baseball player and an honorary member of the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame.
