August 10, 2015

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - South Shore Clean Cities Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and revitalize northern Indiana by promoting the use of clean fuels and clean vehicle technologies, will host a propane educational event on Aug. 19.

The event will take place 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. CDT at the Gary/Chicago International Airport, 6001 Airport Road, Gary, Indiana. The public is welcome to attend this free event, and breakfast and lunch will be provided. Reservations can be made at www.southshorecleancities.org or by calling Catherine Yoder at 219-644-3690. The program is part of the Green Fleet Educational Sessions, which are held the third Wednesday of each month through September.

The propane session offers attendees an opportunity to improve their fleet's carbon footprint and reduce emissions. In addition to networking with peers, vendors and experts in the transportation sector, participants can join in education forums led by fleet managers and current users of propane. The forums will focus on propane applications including maintenance, infrastructure, safety and training, government regulations, tax incentives, return on investment, air quality and funding.

Ride and Drive opportunities also will be available at the event, featuring Propane Autogas public works, law enforcement, first responder, school bus and transit vehicles, and propane lawnmowers and equipment.

Carl Lisek, executive director, said the event will be beneficial to all members of the community and a great networking opportunity for small and large fleets of any kind.

"This event will provide the opportunity for fleets across the Chicagoland and Indiana areas to learn how they can implement propane/green practices in economic and practical ways," he said. "We will have great resources and professionals dealing specifically with propane and how to improve your fleet's carbon footprint."

South Shore Clean Cities officials also lead Purdue Research Park-based Legacy Environmental Services Inc.
