Purdue student-run digital marketing company joins the Anvil

September 1, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Two Purdue University students have formed a full-scale digital marketing company that aims to help other companies create a successful online presence.

Mehak Vohra and Jay Hankins, both sophomores in Purdue's College of Science, founded Jamocha Media, a startup that aims to tell its clients' stories through the digital world. It is a member of the Anvil, a student-run entrepreneurship co-working space located at 320 North St.

In today's marketplace, the Internet is the gateway to reaching a larger audience. Many companies find it hard to create a successful online presence while trying to run their own business, and that's where we come in," Vohra said. "Whether a company is just starting out or has been in operation for years, Jamocha Media is able to help it succeed in the world of digital marketing."

Vohra started Jamocha Media because she realized early on the power of having an online presence.

"Over a year and a half ago I started making YouTube videos, and through that I recognized how powerful and important it is to have a voice online. I created many opportunities for myself through the Internet and wanted to help other brands and companies do the same," she said. "The way that a company is represented online is an important factor in how that company is found and received by potential clients. We want to make that customer experience as positive as possible."

Jamocha Media uses different marketing techniques to help clients grow an online audience.

"We use content specific to each online platform, also known as micro-content. We take a personal approach and define the path to online success for each of our customers individually, in the most cost-efficient way possible," Vohra said. "Apart from working with social media, Web design, advertisements, media and branding, we also help clients create business cards, brochures, and everything in between for the offline world."

Vohra said Jamocha Media's à la carte pricing option and tech-savvy background set it apart from other marketing companies in the area.

"We plan on charging by the hour for our services at extremely affordable prices. Since our pricing is à la carte, clients have the option to choose only the services they want, but we also have packages for helping our clients group our services together," she said. "Jamocha Media is run by students that grew up in the Internet era. We create and live online trends firsthand and experience them every day. We're self-named experts on the matter and have made it our mission to share our expertise with our clients."

Vohra credits Purdue Foundry and the Anvil for helping Jamocha Media become a reality.

"The Purdue Foundry has helped us in many aspects to get our feet on the ground. We can go to them for any questions we need answered including all our legal questions. It's great to know that we will always have a resource to answer our questions and be willing to help us," she said. "I started running the social media for the Anvil last year, and that taught me skills that led to where I am today. We are excited to be part of a community that is constantly helping us make connections and network. It's because of the Anvil and seeing other students start their own companies that I realized it was possible for me to do the same."

Vohra also credits a digital marketing company called Nektur in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she was intern over the summer.

"The help that we received from Nektur over the summer made everything move along as easy as it possibly could," she said. "I don't know how I could have set up Jamocha Media without them, and their experience in starting a company in the digital marketing field."

Jamocha Media is seeking clients that want to go above and beyond their current marketing practices.

"We are looking to work with clients that want to grow with us, and reach people that they never thought they could," Vohra said. "We are looking forward to working with startups, as well as companies that are well established, and want to grow online."
