Appointments, honors and activities

Appointments and promotions:

- Tim Winders has been named vice chancellor of information services at Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central, effective Nov. 1. The appointment of Winders was announced by both campuses in anticipation of their unification into Purdue University Northwest (PNW). The unification is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2016-17 academic year. Winders is associate dean of information technology at South Plains College, a junior college in the west Texas community of Levelland. He succeeds Sarah Howard, whose previously announced retirement is effective Oct. 15.

Alumni honors:

- Mark S. Geyer has been named deputy director of the Johnson Space Center. Geyer, who has served as Orion Program manager since 2007, will transition to the position beginning in mid-September, said Ellen Ochoa, director of the center. Geyer earned bachelor's and master's degrees in aeronautics and astronautics engineering from Purdue. He began his career with NASA in 1990 as a systems engineer in the Lunar and Mars Exploration Office. He also has served as manager of the International Space Station Integration Office, the ISS Mission Management Team chair and the Constellation deputy program manager.
