South Shore Clean Cities to host natural gas seminar on May 20

May 18, 2015

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - Government fleet managers will learn about resources to transition vehicles to be powered by compressed natural gas during a Wednesday (May 20) seminar hosted by South Shore Clean Cities Inc., a nonprofit organization sponsored through a U.S. Department of Energy program.

The Green Fleet Educational Session will be 9-11:30 a.m. CST at the Purdue Technology Center, 9800 Connecticut Drive, Crown Point.  Light refreshments will be provided. Reservations can be made at www.southshorecleancities.org or 219-644-3690.

Carl Lisek, executive director of South Shore Clean Cities, will speak about strategies and grant opportunities to make fleet vehicles more environmentally friendly. Other speakers include John Dubach, director of public works in Hobart; Michael Kuss, general manager of the sanitary district in Michigan City; and Matt Chlebowski, director of central services in South Bend.

Lisek said the monthly Green Fleet Educational Sessions will address different topics to promote the use of clean fuels and clean vehicle technologies.

"These seminars focus on technologies and fuels that are available and being used in northern Indiana," he said. "The goal is to provide the most up-to-date information to people who manage fleet vehicles, including those used by government entities, so they can make better informed decisions about reducing the use of fossil fuels and improving air quality in their cities. They will be able to connect with vendors that offer several alternatives and network with peers."

Several vehicles powered by compressed natural gas will be displayed during the May 20 event, including a police car, an SUV, a refuse vehicle and a pickup truck powered by compressed natural gas.

South Shore Clean Cities officials also lead Purdue Research Park-based Legacy Environmental Services Inc.
