Purdue Jazz Jam set March 27

March 18, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University Bands will celebrate West Coast jazz during an 8 p.m. concert March 27 in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse on campus.

West Coast jazz developed around Los Angeles and San Francisco during the 1950s with a calmer style than bebop that was popular on the East Coast at the time. Some say it is a laid-back version of jazz reflecting the sun and surf lifestyle of California.

All of Purdue's jazz ensembles will play during the event, which will feature the sounds of Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Lennie Niehaus, Chick Corea, Henry Mancini and Bill Homan. The concert is free and open to the public.
