WBAA celebrating Century Club membership to kick off fall member drive

October 16, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - WBAA, public radio from Purdue University, will begin its fall member drive with a 60-minute "Power Hour" and by celebrating supporters who already have joined WBAA's Century Club, a group that will help ensure the future of WBAA as it looks forward to its next century of service.

The Power Hour will last from 7-8 a.m. Friday (Oct. 17) and will begin a weeklong push for station membership.

WBAA is striving to have the support of 100 WBAA members in the Century Club before the end of the year, and those who joined before the fall drive are helping to build the momentum toward that goal, said Mike Savage, general manager of WBAA. Century Club membership, which is available to WBAA members who give at least $100 a month or $1,200 annually, includes a growing number of Purdue employees as well as those throughout the Greater Lafayette area and beyond.

"Century Club members are driving a historic time for WBAA as we look forward to celebrating together 100 years of public broadcast service to the Greater Lafayette community," Savage said. "With their help, and the help of all WBAA listener-supporters, WBAA will connect our community for another 100 years to come.

"We are also grateful to the many loyal members who went above and beyond their usual giving and made additional gifts to encourage new membership. Your investment sends a powerful message to WBAA listeners that WBAA is a vital part of the community and needs the financial support of all listeners."

Any members who join the Century Club through the fall member drive will not only be counted among some of the last charter members, but will also have the opportunity to take advantage of exclusive Century Club benefits. These benefits include a weekend trip to NPR's headquarters in Washington, D.C., to meet with award-winning NPR journalists and hear ideas and opinions on a wide range of topics, from world affairs and domestic policy, to race and culture, music and technology.

The fall member drive will continue through Oct. 24, and donations can be made online or by phone throughout the week. All callers throughout the member drive also will have the opportunity to enter WBAA's fall member drive giveaway, which includes tickets to local performances and cinemas thanks to the support of Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and Goodrich Quality Theaters.

More information on the fall member drive giveaway, including rules and regulations, can be found on WBAA's website.
