Ultrasound technology courses to start Jan. 7 in Northwest Indiana

December 9, 2014

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - Cardinal Tech - Institute of Allied Health has announced that its first semester of classes in ultrasound technology will begin Jan. 7 at the Purdue Technology Center, 9800 Connecticut Drive, Crown Point.

Marianne Moore, program director, said day and evening classes are available, and the training is core-focused.

"Seeing the need for more patient- and core-focused training for ultrasound technologists, Cardinal Tech is excited to bring state-of-the-art simulator training to the area. Our simulators are used as institutions such as Duke University, Northwestern University and Massachusetts General Hospital," she said. "Students are able to get real-world experience in an environment that cultivates learning, growth and independence."

Moore said ultrasound technology is a growing field.

"The U.S. Department of Labor's job outlook for diagnostic medical sonographers shows a 44 percent increase from 2010 to 2020, which is significantly higher than the 14 percent average increase for other occupations," she said. "The average annual salary for experienced sonographers is $65,000 to $75,000. The future for this field is bright."
