Purdue to host 'Healthy Selfies' event

October 21, 2014

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Student Health Advocates (PSHA) will host “Purdue Healthy Selfies” from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Wiley Dining Court and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 30 in front of Class of 1950 Lecture Hall.

On the days leading up to the event, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to post photos of themselves on Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag “PurdueHealthySelfies.” On Oct. 29 and 30 PSHA will sponsor tables at both event locations to promote the campaign and give students the opportunity to create their own #PurdueHealthySelfies.

“As PSHA we decided to recognize the healthy actions of Purdue students, faculty and staff by initiating #PurdueHealthySelfies. We want the Purdue community to continue to engage in fitness activities, consume healthy foods, make time for friends and family, and take health precautions like getting a flu shot,” said Jessica Shellhorn, a Purdue Student Health Advocate. “And then we want them to share photos of themselves engaging in these activities with others in our Purdue community.”

The Purdue Student Health Advocates (PSHA) is a diverse group of students who work with the Student Wellness Office to promote healthy lifestyles by advocating for, educating and empowering Purdue students.

Tammy Loew, health advocacy coordinator in Purdue’s Student Wellness Office, said, “We know that social media is an excellent way for our PSHA students to communicate with others in the Purdue community, and our office is so excited to work with them to develop #PurdueHealthySelfies.”
