Purdue Extension speakers at Fort Wayne Farm Show

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Extension experts on various agricultural subjects will give presentations at the Fort Wayne Farm Show Jan. 13-15.

Topics of their presentations involve the growing craft alcohol industry in Indiana, local foods, the new farm bill, transportation regulations and the outlook for grain and livestock markets.

The annual exposition will be held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave.

Purdue Extension presentations:

JAN.13:

* "Transportation Regulations for Ag." Fred Whitford, coordinator of Purdue Pesticide Programs. Also presenting: Mike Templeton of Michael T. Surface Transportation Consulting.

* "Records Keeping." Steve Engleking, LaGrange County Extension educator.

For both sessions, Private Applicator Recertification Program credit is available for private applicator license holders, as are continuing certification hours for commercial pesticide licensees and continuing education units for certified crop advisers.

JAN. 14:

* "Grain and Livestock Market Outlook." Chris Hurt, agricultural economics specialist.

* "Opportunities with Local Foods." Jodee Ellett, local foods coordinator. Also presenting: David King, Indiana Grown program manager, Indiana State Department of Agriculture.

* "Craft Alcohol Industry in Indiana." Bill Horan, Extension agriculture and natural resources educator and economic and community development educator in Wells County, will moderate a panel discussion with Natasha Cerruti, Purdue research assistant; Jeremy Lutter of Country Heritage Winery & Vineyard; and Tiffany Pryor of Mad Anthony Brewing Co.

* "Farm Bill Producer Workshop" luncheon program. James Mintert, director of the Purdue University Center for Commercial Agriculture.
