Appointments, honors and activities

Appointments and promotions:

- Erika Bonnett, 4-H youth development educator and county director of Purdue Extension in Bartholomew County since 2009, has been appointed to the new position of Indiana 4-H youth development science Extension specialist. Bonnett will coordinate Indiana 4-H's statewide education initiatives in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, together known as STEM. Bonnett will lead the Indiana 4-H Science Mission Team, which guides Purdue Extension educators toward professional development opportunities in STEM so they can more effectively establish related educational programs in their areas. She also will network with Purdue faculty, industry representatives and new 4-H science volunteers to further generate STEM opportunities for Indiana 4-H participants. The positon was funded through a joint gift from Dow AgroSciences and the Indiana 4-H Foundation. 4-H serves 70,000 young people in Indiana.

- Anne Fliotsos, professor of visual and performing arts in the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts, has been selected to co-edit peer-reviewed articles in the SDC Journal, the official publication of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. The articles Fliotsos will help edit will be in a new section of the journal that will feature scholarly articles and book reviews on the stage direction and choreography beginning in the summer 2015 issue. The SDC and members of the Directing Program of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education will collaborate on the articles.

Notables:

- Purdue has received federal recognition for its commitment to community service from the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support exemplary community service programs and raise visibility of effective practices in campus community partners. The honorees were announced Monday (Dec. 8). Purdue's West Lafayette campus and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis were named to the honor roll with distinction in the General Community Service category. When combining service learning, volunteering and student teaching, Purdue students on the West Lafayette campus annually spend more than 1.3 million hours engaged in community service, says Mike Piggott, community relations director. The full honor roll for the General Community Service category can be found here. IUPUI and Purdue North Central were named to the honor roll for Education Community Service. The federal Corporation for National and Community Service administers the honor roll in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and several other organizations.

Rankings:

- Krannert School of Management's master's in economics program was ranked 13th in the United States by Financial Engineer magazine. Programs were ranked based on Graduate Management Admission Test scores, starting salary and bonus, undergraduate GPA, acceptance rate, full-time graduates employed at graduation and full-time graduates employed three months after graduation.
