Appointments, honors and activities

• Appointments and promotions:
- Stacie Hitt has been appointed assistant head of the School of Nursing. She will be responsible for nursing program evaluation on the West Lafayette campus and system-wide outreach. She previously was program director in the Military Family Research Institute.
• Alumni honors:
- The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics has named nine alumni to receive its 2014 Outstanding Aerospace Engineer Award. They are:
* C. Douglas Ebersole, director of the Aerospace Systems Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautics and astronautics in 1982.
* Amy S. Hess, executive assistant director of the FBI Science and Technology Branch. She earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautics and astronautics in 1989.
* Rakesh K. Kapania, Mitchell Professor of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering at Virginia Tech. He earned a doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics in 1985.
* Paul E. Petty, retired vice president of Perkin-Elmer Corp. He earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautics and astronautics in 1953.
* Tamaira Ross, technical fellow with The Boeing Co. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1996 and a master's degree in 1998, both in aeronautics and astronautics.
* John D. Schmisseur, professor of aerospace engineering and the H.H. Arnold Chair, University of Tennessee Knoxville. He earned a doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics in 1997.
* Jeffery Schroeder, chief scientist for flight simulation systems, Federal Aviation Administration. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1984 and a master's degree in 1990, both in aeronautics and astronautics.
* Panagiotis Tsiotras, Dean's Professor of Aerospace Engineering, Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned a doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics in 1993.
* J. William Uhrig, owner and president, Three Cities Research Inc. He earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautics and astronautics in 1982.
