Purdue weed science field days to feature research sites

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Extension will host weed science field days at three Indiana locations beginning Friday (June 27) for farmers and others who apply herbicides.

The field days, held by Purdue's Department of Botany and Plant Pathology, will provide participants with tours of two Palmer amaranth weed research sites and one waterhemp weed research site. The tours will showcase the latest research on how to control the weeds in corn and soybeans and will include presentations by weed researchers.

For the June 27 and July 1field days, participants can receive continuing education units for certified crop advisers and/or continuing certification credits for Indiana commercial pesticide applicators.

Dates and locations:

* Friday (June 27), 9 a.m. to noon EDT: Purdue Palmer amaranth research site at the intersection of 900 E. and 800 N., Twelve Mile. Registration can be found at https://ag.purdue.edu/agry/dtc/Documents/2014-DTC.pdf.  The fee is $25, and attendance is limited to 100 people.

* July 1, 9 a.m. to noon EDT: Throckmorton Purdue Agricultural Center, 8348 U.S. 231, south of Lafayette. Registration can be found at http://www.btny.purdue.edu/weedscience/temp/WeedDay2014.html

* July 29, 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. CDT:  Purdue Palmer amaranth research site, 15627 Old Henderson Road, Evansville. This event will be held in conjunction with Bayer Cropscience's Respect the Rotation program.
