J. Cole

His debut album, "Cole World: The Sideline Story," was released in 2011. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 top R&B Albums and Top Rap Albums chart, selling more than 218,000 in its first week. In addition, Cole received a nomination for Best New Artist at the 54th Grammy Awards. Cole's most recent album, "Born Sinner," was released on June 18. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, and then later rose to number one, giving Cole his second number one on the chart.

The first artist signed to Jay-Z's new Roc Nation label, Cole made himself notable through a scholarly approach - no small feat considering his Magna Cum Laude distinction upon graduating from St. John's University. Steadily developing his lyrical skills since the age 12, Cole studied not only the important musical and lyrical content of his youth, but the strategic career moves made by his influential forefathers.

Cole began writing his own lyrics at 15, soon amassing stacks of notebooks filled with rhymes and observations. Without a DJ or producer to provide a beat, he started creating his own using a beat machine given to him by his mother. From then on J. Cole was constantly creating new music and lyrics leading to his current and flow.

Five childhood friends from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, augmented by three Midwest transplants, The Mowgli's are a quintessential California band. Inspired by the magnetism of San Francisco, the grind of Los Angeles and the serenity of the Big Sur Coast, their songs are a revival of rock n' roll, indie-folk dance and a protest ballad. The Mowgli's are known for their song "San Francisco," which reached number 11 on Billboard's alternative chart this year.

Bas

A Queens, N.Y- based rapper who recently released the mix tape "Quarter Water Raised Me. Vol. 2" and is featured with 50 Cent on J. Cole's single, "New York Times."

Student Concert Committee (SCC) has 16 student members that have been selected through an application and interview process to advise Purdue Convocations about popular entertainment selections for Purdue students on the West Lafayette campus. Student members experience the equivalent of an internship in the entertainment industry. In addition to weekly meetings, SCC members work on sale days for SCC shows, are involved in publicity and promotional duties for their events, and work backstage the day of the show. Each year, the committee selects eight new members to replace outgoing members who have completed a two-year term. After a one-year general membership, the students are expected to take a leadership and mentoring role on the committee.
