C-SPAN bus to visit Purdue Sept. 23 as part of Big Ten tour

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The C-SPAN Bus will visit Purdue University Tuesday (Sept. 23) as part of its fall tour of all 14 universities in the Big Ten Conference. 

Anyone can visit the bus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free, and the bus will be parked on Oval Drive in front of University Hall.

The bus visits locations to inform communities about the public affairs network, which was founded in 1977 by Purdue alumnus Brian Lamb. Purdue's School of Communication is named for Brian Lamb, and the school is housed in the College of Liberal Arts.

Also, prior to the bus opening for visitors, Purdue President Mitch Daniels will be interviewed on C-SPAN as part of the network's flagship morning program, Washington Journal, via the mobile studio on the bus. During the segment, Daniels will discuss higher education and take calls from C-SPAN viewers.

The bus is visiting cities, schools and universities across the country to promote C-SPAN's educational and political resources for students, teachers and community members along the way. Visitors can learn about C-SPAN's programming and resources, including coverage of the 2014 midterm election, through interactive technology that includes:

* In-depth public affairs coverage and educational outreach

* Touch-screen quizzes on C-SPAN and the three branches of government

* Mobile devices demonstrating Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, YouTube, Tout, XM Radio and mobile apps

* HD cameras and production equipment demonstrating C-SPAN’s capability to produce public affairs programming aboard the bus

In West Lafayette, C-SPAN programming is carried on Comcast channel 2 as a public service, free of commercials or government funding. Also, C-SPAN2 is on channel 446 and C-SPAN3 is on channel 447.
