Appointments, honors and activities

Appointments and promotions:

- Alan J. Zillich has been named professor and head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice in the College of Pharmacy. The appointment announced by Craig Svensson, dean of the College of Pharmacy, was effective Sept. 1. Zillich came to Purdue in 2003 as an assistant professor and in 2009 was promoted to associate professor. He also holds appointments at the Regenstrief Institute and the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and serves on their Research Institute Board of Trustees.

Faculty and staff honors:

- Kevin Ply, fire chief of the Purdue University Fire Department, has been elected by his peers president of the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association. Having served as first vice president last year, Ply will now preside over board meetings and work closely with the executive director to ensure that the organization's goals are met. The IFCA is heavily involved with officer development programs for its 600-plus members, including 258 chief officers. In addition, the IFCA works closely with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to develop training opportunities for the Indiana fire service. Ply will serve a one-year term as president.

Alumni honors:

- Alumna Lane Konkel is featured in Universum's 2014 "Top Employers in the U.S.," a magazine done in conjunction with the Wall Street Journal. Konkel, who received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering in 2013, works in the Operations Management Leadership Program at GE Healthcare. The magazine features the top 100 employers for business, engineering, IT, natural sciences, humanities and MBA students, as voted in a survey of 50,000 students. It also features interviews with employees from top employers as well as recruiting trends and other survey findings.
