Legacy Environmental Services earns Women-owned Business Enterprise certification

February 13, 2014

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - An environmental sustainability consulting company based in the Purdue Research Park of Northwest Indiana has been recognized by the Indiana Department of Administration.

Legacy Environmental Services Inc. earned the Women-owned Business Enterprise certification, which means the company is at least 51 percent owned by women who control the business enterprise, possess expertise in their field and are U.S. citizens.

Lorrie Lisek, president, said federal and state laws require government organizations to award at least a portion of purchasing contracts to minority- and women-owned businesses.

"The WBE certification may afford additional possibilities for growth because national corporations also are doing more business with women-owned companies. Several exciting prospects are right around the corner for us," she said. "With the Indiana certification in place, we will seek additional certifications in Illinois, Wisconsin and Florida to better accommodate current and anticipated projects in those states."

Lisek said Legacy Environmental Services provides services to improve clients' return on investment from the implementation of environmentally friendly initiatives. Services include energy planning analysis, grant writing, funding procurement, regulatory compliance, events, marketing, education and training.

"Our goal is to help organizations leverage their assets and capabilities toward innovation and economic growth, while striving for positive environmental and social impact," she said.

Legacy Environmental Services manages multiple nonprofit organizations.

"Two of these are South Shore Clean Cities Inc. and Wisconsin Clean Cities Inc., both sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy," Lisek said. "We have accomplished a lot through these organizations and Legacy Environmental Services, but we have just exposed the tip of the iceberg when it comes to fulfilling our mission of creating a lasting environmental legacy."
