Purdue Research Park-based firm advocates for patients' peace of mind

September 24, 2013

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - Patients who need assistance to understand medical bills, obtain coverage for medical services, pay claims or appeal denied claims, or negotiate discounts for medical payment plans could benefit from a firm that has become a Purdue Research Park tenant.

My Patient Advocate protects patients' rights and helps them make better informed decisions about healthcare options and services. Terri Metro, CEO and founder, spent more than 20 years working with physicians and hospitals as a healthcare consultant, practice administrator and medical billing specialist. She said patients can often feel overwhelmed by medical bills, policies and coverage.

"We review all medical charges, fees and payment schedules to check for accuracy," she said. "We ensure that our clients' health insurance dollars are being used as intended so they don't have to pay more than they absolutely have to."

Metro said My Patient Advocate's main goal is to provide peace of mind.

"We take pride in protecting our clients and their loved ones. They need someone on their side who will advocate for their rights and help them understand the complex world of healthcare insurance," she said. "With more than 20 years of experience in physician offices and hospitals, there are not many companies that can relate with their patients like we do."

Metro said becoming a tenant in the Purdue Research Park of Northwest Indiana is one step toward meeting her goal to help the public in her community.

"I was born and raised in the region, and there is nothing better than to give back," she said. "Officials from the Purdue Technology Center were welcoming and helpful, and their insight and encouragement have made starting My Patient Advocate easier."
