Meeting to prepare fruit growers for 2013 season

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Commercial fruit growers can receive research-based information on the challenges they experienced in 2012 and prepare for this year at a meeting March 19 in Martinsville.

The meeting for central Indiana growers will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Morgan County Purdue Extension Office, 180 S. Main St. There will be a review of the early spring of 2012 and its subsequent freezes and drought, as well as presentations on current research and practices in production and in pest diagnostics and control, with a focus on preparing for healthy crops in 2013.

Featured presenters are Purdue Extension plant pathologist Janna Beckerman, Extension entomologist Rick Foster and Crop Production Services branch manager John Phillips.

There is no cost to attend the meeting, but registration is required by March 15. Lunch will be provided for registered participants and is sponsored by John Phillips of Crop Production Services. The meeting has been approved for Private Applicator Recertification Program credit for certified Private Pesticide Applicators. Those wishing to be recertified must bring their PARP card to the meeting and pay a $10 fee.
