Firm to caption March 16 comedy performance at Theater in the Square

March 14, 2013

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - Theatergoers with hearing loss may find the Saturday (March 16) performance of Ken Ludwig's "The Fox on the Fairway" at a Munster, Ind., theater even more enjoyable because of the captions provided by a businesswoman in northwest Indiana.

Kathy Cortopassi, president of Voice to Print Captioning LLC, said people's quality of life improves when events like theatrical performances are accessible.

"Several years ago I captioned a performance of a play for a woman who had not seen live theater for 20 years due to her hearing loss. She literally cried as she thanked me for helping her understand and enjoy the show," she said. "Theater in the Center should be lauded for having this performance of 'The Fox on the Fairway' captioned. The organization has tremendous vision for making the performing arts accessible to everyone in the community."

Cortopassi will provide captioning for audience members during the 4 p.m. CDT performance at Theatre at the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Ind.

"The Fox on the Fairway" is a madcap comedy that features the 43rd annual grudge match between rival golf clubs, which are thrown for a loop when the best golfer switches sides on the eve of the competition.

During the performance, Cortopassi will sit with the audience and listen to the lines spoken onstage. Captions will appear on a large flat screen TV on the side of the stage.
