WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Already thinking about the holidays and stumping your brain for the gift for that Purdue fan who has a closet full of Boilermaker clothing?

Here's one that has a long shelf life: "A University of Tradition: The Spirit of Purdue," second edition. Compiled by the Purdue Reamer Club and published by Purdue University Press, it is a 296-page, full-color book featuring 286 photos of events, traditions, history and much more.

"This book essentially is about what makes Purdue University special from its people - many of them famous - to its origins, the nickname and everyday student life," said Bryan Shaffer, production and marketing manager for Purdue Press. "For alumni, the book will bring back many fond memories. For today's students, it will breathe life into how Purdue became a world-renowned academic university that is beloved by its alumni. For anyone connected to Purdue, the book offers a great sense of pride."

"A University of Tradition" also contains facts and figures about student, academic, sporting and campus traditions, biographies on all of the university presidents and of famous members of the "Purdue family." A chronological listing of all buildings ever constructed on campus, new landmarks and new traditions, also are covered.

The book is available in hardback on the Purdue University Press website at http://www.thepress.purdue.edu/titles/format/9781557536303. Retail price is $29.95.

The Purdue Reamer Club fosters the observance of university traditions, supports athletic events and is caretaker of the official Purdue University mascot, the Boilermaker Special, which is the train often seen on campus, at sporting events and at Purdue gatherings away from campus. The club was founded in 1923.
