NROTC students tread water for wounded veterans

October 8, 2012

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Navy ROTC students plan to tread water to raise funds to give wounded veterans the opportunity to attend an outdoor experience at Camp Atterbury.

Students in Purdue NROTC Naval Special Warfare/Operations Preparatory Program will tread water up to five hours 12-5 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 14) at the Boilermaker Aquatics Center. The weeklong outdoor experience starts the following weekend and includes hunting and fishing for both former and current service members.

The students are working in conjunction with WISH for OUR HEROES, a national nonprofit dedicated to assisting the men and women of the U.S. active-duty military. Contributions should be made out by check "NROTC Purdue" and sent to the attention of Special Operator First Class Abe Trindle, Armory Room 203, 812 Third St., West Lafayette, IN 47907. Trindle served three tours to Iraq and is organizing the event. A Navy SEAL, he graduated from Purdue in August with degrees in history and political science.

To be applied toward the outdoor experience, donations must be received by Oct. 15.
