Thumbs Up: Surya Dwadasi, Laura Julian and Susan Moore

Editor's note: Since 2010, Purdue Today has invited faculty and staff to recognize the good work of others on campus through its weekly "Thumbs Up" feature. This semester, the newsletter periodically will publish an expanded version of this popular feature in an effort to further call attention to employees' excellent work.
Joyce Roosz recognizes Surya Dwadasi, Laura Julian and Susan Moore for their efforts to assist students at the Purdue University Student Health Center (PUSH) with health insurance open enrollment. The enrollment period was Aug. 6 through Sept. 8.
Roosz, who is insurance/billing manager at PUSH, writes:
"Susan, Surya and Laura worked together as a team to assist hundreds of students who had questions or concerns during the open enrollment period. International students are required to either purchase the University-sponsored health plan or provide proof of acceptable insurance coverage if they meet certain waiver guidelines. As the deadline approached, Susan and Surya, who are employees in PUSH's Student Insurance office, offered to extend their workdays as needed to answer emails and phone calls as well as to meet with students who had specific questions.
"It takes patience and stamina to deal with constant lines of people, and it takes great knowledge of the plan and processes to answer questions in a way that everyone can understand, particularly if health insurance is an unfamiliar concept. Susan and Surya persevered through the long, busy days with positive attitudes and smiles on their faces. Through it all, they also fielded questions from other staff members and continued to help students with questions about claims and bills.
"Further, Laura, who works in PUSH's Business Office, spent afternoons assisting Susan and Surya by prioritizing student needs, answering questions and directing students to the appropriate resources. Laura was willing to learn new things and take on added responsibilities to assist where she was most needed."
"I am truly thankful for Susan, Surya and Laura's commitment to assisting students and their co-workers in a positive and knowledgeable way. Teamwork is essential, and other staff members, including Becky Alkire, Kathy Biggs and Lori Blair, did their part in support of this effort. A big thanks to all!"
