Science faculty committee to host screening of 'Black Suns' documentary

The College of Science's Faculty Committee for Diversity will host a screening of "Black Suns: An Astrophysics Adventure" on Monday (Jan. 29).

Kelvin Z. Phillips, the director of the film, and Jarita Holbrook, the host of the documentary, will attend the screening.

The documentary will be shown in Lawson Computer Science Building, Room 1142. At 6:30 p.m., there will be a pre-movie discussion with the director, before the movie at 7 p.m. followed by a panel discussion.

“Black Suns” is about Alphonse Sterling, a researcher at NASA, and Hakeem Oluseyi, a professor of physics and space studies at Florida Institute of Technology, following two eclipses that occurred in 2012. They travel across continents as they seek to capture the elusive totality of the black sun.

Holbrook is an award-winning cultural astronomer.
