PPRI and Scholars Strategy Network to host interactive workshop

The Purdue Policy Research Institute and the Scholars Strategy Network will host a workshop on Jan. 30 to provide Purdue faculty and graduate students with the opportunity to learn about forming long-term relationships with policymakers.

The workshop, titled "Partnership for Policy: Policy Engagement," involves an intensive, interactive training that will teach its participants how best to develop reciprocal relationships with civic intermediaries and policymakers. The training will run 3-5 p.m. in Purdue Memorial Union’s East Faculty Lounge and will be followed by a celebration at Nine Irish Brothers.

The Scholars Strategy Network is a nationwide, voluntary and interdisciplinary membership organization that seeks to improve public policy by connecting scholars and their research to policymakers. It is made up of more than 800 scholars and 31 regional chapters across the nation, including a growing and active chapter in Indiana.

The organization created this training workshop in pursuit of its mission to bridge the gap between U.S. universities and the U.S. policy process. The centerpiece of the workshop is an approach that emphasizes relationships and research-practice partnerships between academics and practitioners.

Any Purdue faculty member or graduate student who is interested in actively engaging with policymakers or the Scholars Strategy Network is invited to attend. Purdue faculty and graduate students who are interested in attending can register online for free.

Questions regarding the event or requests for more information can be sent to Kaitlin Kelly-Thompson, a Scholars Strategy Network graduate fellow, at kkellyth@purdue.edu.
