CIE, Teaching Academy to explore teaching, learning through reading groups for faculty

The Teaching Academy and the Center for Instructional Excellence are inviting faculty to join Purdue's faculty teaching and learning reading groups in the spring semester. These reading groups will bring together faculty from around the campus in small groups to discuss how recent books about the classroom and teaching and learning may inform what they do.

For the spring semester, participants will read "Overcoming Student Learning Bottlenecks" by Joan Middendorf and Leah Shopko. The book guides faculty through a process for identifying specific challenges for students in their discipline and developing strategies for exploring expert thinking and processes to guide students through overcoming these important challenges.

Participants will read the book over the course of the semester, meeting once each month to discuss the ideas, theories, and application for this semester and in the future. Lunch will be provided.

Faculty who would like to participate during spring 2018 should fill out an online questionnaire by Wednesday (Jan. 17) providing information about themselves and their availability (mark all possible days of availability).

Those who cannot make it this semester but are interested in faculty reading and learning communities, or who have suggestions for future books/topics, should contact Dan Guberman at dguberma@purdue.edu.
