License plate recognition system to replace parking permits in fall 2018; registration email coming

Beginning in August, Parking Facilities will be transitioning to a license plate recognition system on the West Lafayette campus. With the implementation of this new system, a vehicle's license plate will serve as the means of identification for parking enforcement, taking the place of the permits currently in use.

Parking Facilities is about to begin testing the license plate recognition system and will be contacting campus customers to initiate necessary preparations. In the coming weeks, motorists who currently have a Purdue University parking permit for the West Lafayette campus will receive an email from Parking Facilities with instruction on how to register their vehicle(s) for the license plate recognition system. In order to respond more quickly to inquiries and keep website traffic to a manageable amount, not all permit holders will receive the registration email at the same time.

More information on the license plate recognition system and registration process will be shared in Purdue Today in the coming months.
