'Enhancing Teaching in a Digital Age' online conference to kick off Monday

Purdue's campuses along with Kaplan University are offering "Enhancing Teaching in a Digital Age," a five-day online conference for educators running Monday (Nov. 6) through Nov. 10 in celebration of National Distance Learning Week.

Events will kick off at 11 a.m. ET Monday. The conference's goal is to embrace distance learning by reaching and retaining students through online education. To achieve this goal, Purdue West Lafayette, Purdue Northwest, Purdue University-Indiana University Fort Wayne, and Kaplan will host WebEx sessions each day of the week and will include useful resources for faculty.

During the afternoon session on Monday, Norm Vaughan, the conference’s keynote speaker, will share how to apply the Community of Inquiry framework to the design, facilitation and direction of a blended or online course experience. According to the "Study of Undergraduate Students and Information Technology, 2016," conducted by the Educause Center for Analysis and Research, an overwhelming majority of students said they prefer courses that have a healthy mix of technology blended into the course design. Only 10 percent of students preferred entirely face-to-face courses.
