Purdue Contemporary Dance Company Purdue Contemporary Dance Company's "Winter Works"

"To dance," Agnes de Mille said, "is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful." The Purdue Contemporary Dance Company bears literal witness to this truth in "Winter Works." In the dance, others can see the glory that resides in a passionate expression of creative, life-affirming ideas. Don't Miss It!

This installment of Don't Miss It! provides information through winter break. The next installment is to appear Jan. 8, the opening day of spring semester.

DECEMBER 1

The fall Cultural Arts Festival from the Black Cultural Center will feature BCC's performing arts ensembles in music, dance, voice and theatre. 7 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. $. BCC

DECEMBER 2

Purdue Symphony Orchestra Purdue Symphony Orchestra

The Philharmonic and Symphonic orchestras will soar and thunder and whisper and do the wondrous things that orchestras do. 8 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Free. Details

Steel Wheels traditional music Steel Wheels: bluegrass, folk and old-time tunes

DECEMBER 8

Tuba Christmas merrily dashes in to start the evening, and Holiday Cheer & All That Jazz prances onstage next in a festive tribute to the season. 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Free. Details

DECEMBER 8-9

"Winter Works" once again will celebrate the kinetic spirit of creativity in dance with Purdue choreography and performers. 7:30 p.m. Friday; 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Pao Hall, Nancy T. Hansen Theatre. $. Details

DECEMBER 15

The exhibition "'Moving Parts' by Thomas Lucas and Hummingbird Press Editions" will open and run through Feb. 25. The Black Cultural Center is helping bring the work of Lucas, a lecturer in art and design at Chicago State University and founder and master printer at Hummingbird Press at Lillstreet Art Center. The exhibition is at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette, 102 S. 10th St., Lafayette. Hours: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. except holidays. BCC | Museum
