Online learning is topic for next NewU webinar

The second in the series of one-hour Purdue NewU webinars will explore the topic "Online Learning" at 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 19).

The webinars are intended to bring together faculty and staff from Purdue and Kaplan University to foster learning, share best practices, promote ongoing collaboration and support better understanding among the teams and campuses. 

Each session addresses the goal to expand access to higher education for working adults and others for whom traditional campus study is not accessible or attainable. Subject matter experts from both Purdue and Kaplan University will share their perspectives and approaches before opening it up to a broader conversation that includes question and answers. Faculty and staff may attend any or all sessions.

This second seminar features:

* Jon Harbor, Purdue University director of digital education and associate vice provost.
* Jerry Taylor, faculty, Kaplan University School of Business and IT.
* Andrea Gibson, faculty, Kaplan University School of Nursing.
* Trish Berry, Kaplan University associate dean, School of Health Sciences.

Future webinar session topics include curriculum design, competency-based education and continuous improvement in teaching and learning. The previous webinar focused on the mission, rationale and timeline.

Each webinar will be limited to the first 1,000 participants, and videos of each will be made available shortly after on the NewU website at http://purduenewu.org.

Instructions for attendees

Using the WebEx meeting tool, Purdue and Kaplan presenters will address their topic. The remaining time will be devoted to addressing questions submitted by the audience, which will include faculty and staff from both institutions.

You may join the webinars 30 minutes before their start times. If you have not used WebEx before, please use this time to for some necessary initial setup.

To join, and go to the NewU website: http://purduenewu.org.

Click on Faculty and Staff Webinars.

Select the link for the day's webinar topic.

Enter your name, email and the event password, which is boilers1.

Click on "Join Now."

If you have not used WebEx before, you will be prompted to download and install the Cisco WebEx add-on. After installing, quit your browser, relaunch the browser and rejoin the event.

Once in the event, click on "Quick Start" in the top left corner. Then select how you want to hear your audio -- through the computer or call in on the phone -- and then click OK. (With either option you will be able to view the presentation as well as hear the audio.)

If you select to hear it on your computer, a box labeled "Computer Audio Settings" will appear where you can make adjustments. You are now ready to see and hear the webinar.

Attendees will submit questions through the Q&A icon. A selection of these will be addressed during the last 20 minutes of the webinar.
