Latino Cultural Center, Imagination Station teaming up to celebrate Latinos in STEM

Imagination Station and Purdue University's Latino Cultural Center are teaming up to celebrate Latinos in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This free event will be held at 6-7:30 p.m. Friday (Sept. 22) at Imagination Station in Lafayette.

The event will offer many activities for kids of all ages, as well as host a panel of local Latino and Latina STEM professionals. This panel will include Purdue faculty, students and community members, and they will talk about their career experiences. Free tacos will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and Imagination Station will be making and serving liquid nitrogen ice cream.

The Latino Cultural Center is co-hosting the event to help inspire adults and children alike. “Representation is important, and in intentionally selecting a diverse panel of Latinx in STEM, we hope to empower those who participate,” says Carina Olaru, director of the Latino Cultural Center.

To commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month, Imagination Station will have signage in both English and Spanish. “We are excited to partner with folks in the local Latino community to celebrate the amazing contributions of Latin Americans to science,” says Jazmin Berlanga Medina, director of educational programs at Imagination Station. “This is also a wonderful opportunity for parents to learn how they can help their children succeed in STEM and beyond.”

The event is sponsored by Del Real Auto Sales, Chase Bank, La Tapatia, and Jalisco Grocery. All members of the Lafayette community are welcome to come out and celebrate Latinos who have made an impact in STEM.
