UPDATE: The Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences’ Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lecture featuring Ed Harvey, chief of the U.S. National Park Service Water Resources Division, has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences on Sept. 21 will host the 2017 Birdsall-Dreiss Distinguished Lecture given by Ed Harvey, chief of the U.S. National Park Service Water Resources Division. Harvey's lecture is titled "Water Resource Stewardship in the U.S. National Park Service."
Harvey’s lecture will take place at 3:30-4:30 p.m. in Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 2087. The lecture is open to all, although space is limited.
Harvey received a Master of Science in hydrogeochemistry from Purdue in 1990. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and is a GSA councilor. In 2008, Harvey received the GSA Hydrogeology Division’s George Burke Maxey Distinguished Service Award.
Harvey has been serving as chief of the U.S. National Park Service Water Resources Division since January 2013. The Water Resources Division provides park service leadership for the preservation, protection and management of the water and aquatic resources. The Water Resources Division also offers technical assistance to more than 400 national park units, leads and supports development of National Park Service water resource initiatives, and provides disciplinary and policy support to the Washington, D.C., offices and park service leadership staff.
The lecture is part of EAPS’s Black and Golden Jubilee 50th anniversary celebration. A full schedule of events for the jubilee can be found here.
