Associate Vice President for Research (Regulatory Affairs)

The Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships seeks an individual with vision and demonstrated leadership for the position of Associate Vice President for Research (Regulatory Affairs). This is a senior management position within the Office and reports directly to the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships (EVPRP). The position is a 70% appointment.

The AVPR’s responsibilities include oversight of all university programs with responsibilities for research involving human participants and vertebrate animals; the protection of external confidential information; compliance with export control regulations; management of faculty, staff and student conflicts of interest; and oversight of the EVPRP responsibilities in the implementation and oversight of Purdue’s education plan addressing NSF requirements for responsible and ethical conduct of research. The AVPR must prioritize oversight focused on educating and assisting faculty, staff and students with respect to compliance with all federal, state and internal regulations regarding the conduct of research, and institute corrective and effective action when noncompliance occurs. The AVPR will support and advise the EVPRP and represent the EVPRP at meetings on matters related to research regulatory oversight, as needed.

The AVPR will be responsible for the university’s compliance with all existing research-related federal, state and internal regulations and policies, for monitoring new and evolving regulations, and for instituting guidelines and policies for compliance once they are enacted. The AVPR will review and suggest revisions as needed to Purdue’s research-related policies and procedures for their implementation. The AVPR will serve as Purdue University’s Institutional Official for Human Research Protections and Institutional Official for Vertebrate Animal Welfare.

Applicants should be a tenured member of the Purdue faculty, preferably in rank of full professor for more than five years, and have experience with federally funded research involving human participants and/or vertebrate animals.
