About 360 Purdue volunteers honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by helping local community agencies during the MLK Day of Service on Monday (Jan. 16). Volunteers spent time with community service agencies in Tippecanoe County, including those that work with animals, children, seniors, health care and the homeless. The event was coordinated by Purdue's Civic Engagement & Leadership Development Office within Student Activities and Organizations in partnership with the Black Cultural Center as part of the MLK Committee.

Purdue will continue its 2017 MLK celebration, "The Fierce Urgency of Now: Where Do We Go from Here?," with the keynote presentation by Harry Belafonte, singer, songwriter, actor and social activist, at 7 p.m. today (Jan. 17) in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse.

More on the address and other celebration activities is available here.
