Provost's Office seeking nominations for Morrill Awards

The Office of the Provost is seeking nominations for the annual Morrill Awards, which recognize West Lafayette campus faculty at the rank of professor for outstanding career achievements. The deadline to submit nominations is Feb. 28.

Candidates will have excelled at all facets of the professoriate and will have demonstrated synergies between their roles as teachers, scholars and any aspect of the engagement mission by showing the impact or potential impact of their work on society.

The Morrill Award comes with a $30,000 prize, which may be used as discretionary funds or salary supplements. Winners may use funds to support up to two months' summer salary or as a salary supplement of up to one month for each of two years. Up to three awards will be made.                                                            

Nominations must include:

* A summary, not to exceed three pages, of the nominee's career accomplishments in teaching, research and engagement, as well as the synergies among these three aspects of the nominee’s achievements.

* The nominee's current curriculum vitae.

* Three letters of support. A nomination letter counts as one of three letters. A letter from an individual not affiliated with Purdue is encouraged.

Nominators should submit nominations with supporting materials at www.purdue.edu/provost/faculty/morrill-awards.html. Winners will be announced April 25 at the Faculty Awards Convocation. The Office of the Provost named the Morrill Awards for Justin Smith Morrill, the Vermont congressman who sponsored the 1862 federal Morrill Act, which allowed for the creation of land-grant colleges and universities.
