New Center for Healthy Living programming to focus on managing a healthy lifestyle

The Center for Healthy Living on Purdue's West Lafayette campus is introducing a Getting Healthy Lifestyle Management program that kicks off on Feb. 27. The program -- which consists of five educational sessions that take a holistic approach to health and wellness -- is designed to help empower participants to make lifestyle changes that will improve their health.

Cheryl Laszynski and Tia Walker, both registered nurse health coaches at the center, will lead the program.

According to Laszynski, the program covers a broad spectrum of topics and is designed to bring long-term behavioral change in a supportive group setting.

“Topics such as understanding health risks, healthy eating, stress management and more will be discussed throughout the program,” Laszynski says. “Each topic is covered in a one-hour group session with presentations, group interaction and illustrative materials to enhance learning.”

Classes will run Mondays, Feb. 27 through April 3, and Thursdays, March 2 through April 6.

Participants will enroll for one of the following class meeting times.

* Mondays, noon-12:50 p.m., Stewart Center, Room 311. Exception: The class will meet at Purdue Memorial Union, Room 263 AB, on Feb. 27 only.

* Thursdays, 4-5 p.m., Pao Hall, Room 1197.

 “We are excited to offer this program to faculty and staff,” Walker says. “I look forward to working with participants to really make a change in their lifestyle; the holistic approach, I believe, will be well received.”

No-cost wellness initiatives, including workshops and programs, are available to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and adult dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan.

The center is open for medical visits 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Lab hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
