Discovery Park to host advanced energy lecture by Livermore lab's Julio Friedmann

On Feb. 16, Discovery Park will host S. Julio Friedmann, senior fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, as a part of the Discovery Park Distinguished Lecture Series.

Friedman’s talk, "Innovation: The Core of Clean Energy Economy," will focus on the potential of low-cost, clean energy as an economic opportunity and environmental and national security imperative. Innovations in technology, as well as in finance, business models and policy, are also an important factor in creating new solutions for clean energy. Changes to global markets and the cost, performance, and the footprint of U.S. energy infrastructure can create substantial advances in energy security, economic performance and mitigating climate risks.

Friedmann is one of the most widely known and authoritative experts on carbon capture and sequestration and clean energy systems. At Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, he serves as chief expert in energy technologies and systems. He is the former principal deputy assistant secretary for fossil energy at the U.S. Department of Energy, where he worked on clean coal and carbon management, oil and gas systems, international engagements in clean fossil energy and other initiatives.

The lecture will be 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Burton D. Morgan Center, Room 121, and is open to the public, though space is limited. The lecture is co-sponsored by Purdue's Davidson School of Chemical Engineering.
