On Friday (March 24), Discovery Park will host Jason Matheny, director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity. While on campus, Matheny will provide an overview of IARPA and its research mission within the intelligence community.

Matheny’s talk will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121. The event is open to faculty, staff and students interested in learning more about IARPA.

IARPA has funded hundreds of research projects in academia, industry, and federally funded research and development centers, in areas as diverse as machine learning, human judgment, neuroscience, epidemiology, linguistics, cybersecurity, counterproliferation, and high-performance computing. Matheny’s talk will summarize what has been learned in the first 10 years of IARPA's research, plans for future research and potential funding opportunities for the research community.

Matheny became IARPA’s director in 2015 after serving as a program manager, associate office director, and office director. Before IARPA, he worked at Oxford University, the World Bank, the Applied Physics Laboratory, the Center for Biosecurity and Princeton University. He is the co-founder of two biotechnology companies. His research has been profiled in the New York Times’ annual “Ideas of the Year,” Discover Magazine’s “Top Science Stories of the Year,” as well as Nova, Scientific American and the Economist. He received the Intelligence Community’s Award for Individual Achievement in Science and Technology.
