Center for Healthy Living to offer weight management program; register by April 12

The Center for Healthy Living on Purdue's West Lafayette campus will focus on weight management education and support in an upcoming program. The center is offering recurring six-week weight management programs throughout 2017; the next opportunity to participate begins April 13. Benefits-eligible employees and spouses/adult dependents covered on a Purdue health plan who are in the process of losing weight or who are seeking motivation, guidance and tools to begin their weight loss journey are encouraged to attend.

The comprehensive education program will be led by Cheryl Laszynski, registered nurse and certified health and wellness coach at the Center for Healthy Living. Throughout the program, Laszynski will help individuals identify issues that contribute to being overweight, assist in developing goals and strategies for successful weight loss and maintenance, and provide support and guidance to each participant throughout the program. Presentations from special guests in the areas of nutritional counseling and physical activity, as well as an offer for 10 free visits over a 30-day period at Purdue’s recreational sports center for those without a prior membership, also are included.

“All things related to weight management and weight loss can be frustrating, especially when someone doesn’t have a solid support system within reach,” Laszynski says. "Through this program, and at the center in general, that’s what we try and provide for our clients -- a solid, encouraging support system so they know they are not alone in their journey to a healthier way of life.”

All of the providers, all health coaches, the dietitian and the pharmacist at the Center for Healthy Living are able to provide ongoing support once the program ends as well.

“It is possible to reach and maintain a healthy weight,” Laszynski says. “We are here to help you in your journey to a healthier you.” Rebecca Stevenson -- and her success -- is a great example of how the center can play a positive role in helping achieve a healthy weight and lifestyle.

The upcoming session begins April 13 and meets weekly from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Thursdays through May 18 in the Center for Healthy Living conference room.
