America Saves Week encouraging employees to consider personal savings

From Feb. 27 to March 4, employees are encouraged to participate in America Saves Week, which provides guidance on the hows and whys of saving money.

This week is an ideal time for employees to think about good savings behavior, assess their own saving status and consider how managing savings now will affect their retirement income. To view 2017 retirement limits, current account balances or increase contributions, or to review investment options, log into NetBenefits at http://netbenefits.com/purdue or call a Fidelity representative at 800-642-7131.

To encourage employees with modest incomes to save for retirement, there exists a tax saver’s credit. This gives tax credit for the first $2,000 voluntarily contributed to workplace retirement programs. Get more information about the saver’s credit at https://www.irs.gov/Retirement-Plans/Plan-Participant,-Employee/Retirement-Savings-Contributions-Savers-Credit.

During America Saves Week, Fidelity is providing a complimentary series of workshops on a range of topics, from managing finances to college planning strategies and learning to invest with confidence. Employees can attend just one, or sign up for a series of workshops. A schedule of America Saves workshops is available at http://www.purdue.edu/hr/Benefits/currentEmployees/retirement/pdf/americaSavesWorkshops2017.pdf. Register via the link provided on the workshop schedule.

Fidelity representatives can also provide in-person workshops at staff meetings or other events. To request a workshop, call 800-544-6868.
