Amelia Earhart items featured in Purdue Today video
Amelia Earhart's story is woven into Purdue history because she was a career counselor and advisor to the Department of Aeronautics from 1935 to 1937. Purdue is the home of the world's largest compilation of Earhart-related papers, memorabilia and artifacts.
To celebrate Women's History Month, Sammie Morris, head of Purdue Libraries Archives and Special Collections, pulled a few items out of the vault to share with Purdue Today. Click here to see the video.
Some of those artifacts include a flight suit that Morris says is associated with Earhart's 1932 solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Others include her flight log from that historic flight, a pair of her flight goggles and one of her flight helmets.
The items are not on permanent display because of how fragile they are, Morris says. However, some of the items will be on display in an exhibit coming this summer.
